Kindergarten
Our preschool/kindergarten program begins when our school year does, the Tuesday after Labor Day. The week before we will be doing individual assessments to see where each child is so we can do a second and third assessment during the middle and the end of the school year. Parents will be given a copy of that assessment and we will keep one on file.
We do a lot of things around books. We also have a video library the kids enjoy. We do not have our TV hooked up to cable, only a DVD player. And we do not use the TV to babysit your children. They are limited to watching two 30 minute videos or one hour long video. Friday's we have a special movie day in the afternoons. We watch a full length video complete with popcorn.

Brand NEW Preschool Curriculum for 2017

Ms Terri is creating a brand NEW preschool curriculum that will be ready for the 2017-2018 school year. Our curriculum's foundation is books! Every idea starts with a book and branches out into every area of learning. There are activities for infants all the way through Pre-K and Kindergarten for those who choose to continue here. Our school year starts the Tuesday after Labor Day, in September. Our program is centered around a monthly theme with sub themes daily and weekly. We learn several letters each month, their sounds, sign language for that letter, a poem or rhymes each week, books with the themes, colors, numbers, shapes, art and craft projects, music and science. It is a complete preschool program that includes reading lessons that start at age 4. Children will graduate MTKCP with a 1st to 2nd grade reading level. We teach them all of the basics and we do it in a fun way. As long as they think learning is fun they will never want to stop.
The Berenstain Bears

The Berenstain Bears are a favorite of ours because they have many wonderful stories and resources. Books (beginner and chapter books), Videos and interactive websites. They have a new Living Lights series that teaches children principles from the Bible. We use these books and videos to teach many life lessons and build on the things in the book to include craft ideas.

Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons

Starting at about age four we use a wonderful book called Teach Your Child To Read in 100 Easy Lessons. It is a great book and we have used it to teach three of our four children and many of the kids who have been in our care, if they were old enough. It is a very simple program. It takes 15 minutes a day for 100 days. It tells you exactly what to say to the child. It gives them a wonderful foundation to build upon and makes reading much easier for them. At the end of the book they will have a second grade reading level. Their comprehension will not be at that level. But it can be worked on with other resources.
Math Mania

We strive to provide a firm foundation in mathematics for our preschoolers. We present an explicit, structured, systematic, and cumulative program using multi-sensory teaching techniques.
- Number Recognition and Counting from 0-9
- Writing Numerals
- Geometric Shapes: Rectangles
- Geometric Shapes: Circles
- Geometric Shapes: Triangles
- Geometric Shapes: Squares
- Addition: Introduction and Symbolism
- Addition: +1
Veggie Tales

Veggie Tales is another great video resource. They are wonderful videos that teach Bible stories and character principles through silly stories. We also have some preschool books.

Wishbone

The Wishbone series is a great book and DVD set to have. The books can be read aloud or an older child who is a reader can read them on their own. The DVD's add a great sense of adventure and humor to the stories. They are based on classic novels for younger readers/watchers.
Cooking

The younger children participate in the cooking projects the older kids do. We are Cooking our way through America as we learn about each state in the United States. We will make different recipes that are known in each state. Some will be main dishes and some desserts.
Some days we will be making foods that go along with our Preschool or Kindergarten program themes. Either way, we will have fun cooking together and eating what we make.

Adventures in Science

We have science two days a week. We have gathered many resources and books with fun science experiments and information to teach them to love science. We try to do hands on activities in this subject because it helps the children learn by doing. There are some fun science videos that we enjoy to go along with what we have learned.
Drawing and Handwriting

For our drawing and handwriting curriculum we use the Draw Write Now series. This is an eight book series that goes through history. These books show simple ways to draw things and a way to write about the picture below it.
Draw and Write Through History is a cursive drawing book series. We are able to find pictures to go along with our history study. (for older children)
