We had two dogs that stayed outside up until this month. Someone opened our gate and let both the dogs out. We found one of the dogs the following morning on the side of the road after being hit by a car in north Arlington. We had no clue where Harley was. She had witnessed the death of her sister and ran off when someone came to read Mercedes tags. Harley had always been an inside dog until she started living with us. But Mercedes was not. So Harley kept her company. Harley found her way home exactly one week after she was let out of the gate. We were so excited to see her. She is such a sweet dog.
We now keep her inside because we do not want to take a chance on someone opening the gate and letting her out again. She is bathed regularly and kept out of the playroom. She does sit in the kitchen area and watches over the kids. She doesn't want to be alone, we think. She is a non-aggressive animal. She does not climb or jump on the kids. She doesn't approach them unless we call her over for them to pet her. She will lay where she is if they are walking by her and not get up and seek their attention. During nap time she goes in our daughter's room and lays down, too.
The kids are so happy that she is back.
